Navigating the transition into the competitive workforce can be a complex and often overwhelming process, particularly for those seeking a career path that aligns with their personal strengths and goals. Outward Bound Canada’s Youth Career Catalyst (YCC) program is specifically designed to bridge this gap. By integrating the restorative benefits of outdoor experiential learning with practical, personalized, and professional career coaching, the program provides a comprehensive foundation for sustainable employment.

Outward Bound Canada's Youth Career Catalyst Program

The Youth Career Catalyst (YCC) program is funded in part by the Government of Canada under the Youth Employment and Skills Strategy program. It is building a bridge to meaningful careers. Through this program, they prepare individuals aged 18-30 for employment by combining training, mentorship and immersive outdoor experiences.

Why Join the Youth Career Catalyst?

The program is built on three pillars to ensure you feel supported every step of the way:

  • Paid In-Person Training (24 Days): Get paid to learn! This includes a 10-day outdoor journey and 14 days of hands-on workshops. In BC, this adventure takes place near the beautiful Lake Cowichan on Vancouver Island from April 19 – May 14, 2026.
  • Supported Work Experience: After your training, you’ll receive up to 14 weeks of paid work experience. The YCC team works closely with you to find a position that fits your specific interests and needs, ensuring you have ongoing support.
  • Mentorship & Career Coaching: You won’t have to navigate this journey alone. You’ll receive personalised guidance and one-on-one coaching to help you plan your future with confidence.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this cohort, applicants should be:

  • Between 18 and 30 years old at the start of the program.
  • A Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or protected person with a valid work permit.
  • Not currently employed, in an internship role, or enrolled in a full-time school or training program.
  • Living in British Columbia, Alberta, or Ontario.

They are prioritising those facing multiple barriers, including Indigenous and racialised youth, and 2SLGBTQ+ youth.

If you’re looking for a fresh start and a community that supports your journey, the Youth Career Catalyst is ready for you. Take the first step toward a career that feels right.
